Taxpayers face a £400,000-a-year bill to monitor Osama bin Laden's spin doctor

  • Adel Abdel Bary, 60, was jailed over 1998 devastating attacks on US embassies
  • But he won early 'mercy' release because of his morbid obesity and asthma
  • Has now been revealed that Egyptian national will likely cost the taxpayer
  • Will need to be monitored by MI5 and counter-terror police 'for several years'

Taxpayers could fork out £400,000 a year to monitor Osama bin Laden's spin doctor who is walking the streets of Britain again.

Adel Abdel Bary, 60, was jailed over the devastating 1998 attacks on US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania that killed 224 people.

But the terror propagandist won early 'mercy' release this week because his morbid obesity and asthma puts him at risk of Covid.

It has now been revealed that the Egyptian national will likely cost the taxpayer a fortune as both MI5 and counter-terror police need to monitor his movements 'for several years'.

A former military intelligence officer told The Mirror: 'They will want to know who he talks to, how does he communicate and what are his intentions.

'This may cost three or four-hundred-thousand a year. He may have to be monitored discreetly for several years.'

Bary walked free from a customs enforcement detention facility in New Jersey on Tuesday and flew back to London on Wednesday.

He was born in Egypt but was granted asylum in Britain in 1991.

David Cameron's government is reported to have struck a deal with Washington to accept Bary back into Britain upon his release to avoid a human rights breach.

Bary would likely be tortured and killed if deported back to Egypt.

Bary, whose son is an ISIS jihadi rapper, has returned to live with his wife Ragaa, 59, at their £1 million council flat in Maida Vale.

His lawyer told The New York Times: 'After all this time all Mr Bary wants is to enjoy a quiet life with his family.'

Bary was arrested in the UK in 1999 and extradited to the US in 2012 where he struck a plea deal which ended with him being sentenced to 25 years behind bars.

He was charged with 285 offences, but pleaded guilty to just a handful, including threatening to kill by means of explosive and conspiracy to murder US citizens abroad.

The terrorist, who leased London offices in Kilburn Lane for bin Laden's propaganda activities, had 16 years taken off due to the time he had spent on remand.

A security source told The Sun: 'His return remains a huge headache for the Home Secretary.

'She is intent on ridding the country of threats, but here's a notorious terrorist dumped right on her doorstep.'

He is the father of ISIS jihadi Abdel-Majed Abdel, who was arrested in Spain after travelling to Syria where he posed with the severed head of an Assad regime soldier.

Bary's lawyers had argued earlier this year that his morbid obesity was an 'extraordinary and compelling' reason to let him go.

The judge agreed that he should be released on compassionate grounds because the coronavirus was a great risk to his health, given his obesity and asthma.

Bary had been serving his sentence in the ADX Florence supermax prison in Colorado before being shipped over to the east coast and then onto London.

He will not be placed under Terrorism Prevention and Investigation Measures because he has already served his sentence.

Bary was granted asylum in the UK in 1991 after fleeing his native Egypt

Sources told The Sun he will almost certainly claim welfare from the state and be granted security monitoring for his safety, costing the taxpayer tens of thousands.

After Bary was granted asylum he became the London cell leader of Egyptian Islamic Jihad – a terror group which merged with al-Qaeda.

Following the August 1998 African embassy bombings, Bary was responsible for transmitting claims of responsibility to the media.

In one of the court hearings leading to his sentence he wept before the judge after he admitted using fax machines and phone calls for the messages.

He said: 'I arranged to transmit messages from media personnel to my co-conspirators, al-Zawahiri and Bin Laden.'

At his 2015 sentencing, Judge Lewis A. Kaplan had initially expressed concern that the plea bargain arranged with prosecutors was too lenient.

Handing down a sentence of 25 years, much of it hacked away already by time spent on remand, Judge Kaplan told Bary that he was the beneficiary of an 'enormously generous plea bargain.'

Bary expressed remorse, telling the judge: 'If I could just do something to bring the victims back, your honor, I would have done it, but unfortunately I can't.'

His 29-year-old son was captured by Spanish authorities in April this year after trying to sneak into the southern town of Almeria from north Africa. He was stripped of his British citizenship after fighting for Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

Man converts to Islam, stabs imam, attack blamed on ‘Islamophobia’

Incidents of “Islamophobia” are so thin on the ground in reality that they have to be invented. As you can see from the Huffington Post story from February, the media and the mosque leaders did their best to paint this incident as a manifestation of that phantom crime, but reality proved to be disturbingly intrusive.

“Muslim convert, 30, who stabbed prayer leader in the neck at London mosque is jailed for seven years after asking to be sent to prison so he could learn the Quran ‘from start to finish,'” by Katie Feehan, Mailonline, December 14, 2020 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):

A knifeman who stabbed a 70-year-old Muslim prayer leader at one of Britain’s biggest mosques was jailed for more than seven years today.

Daniel Horton, 30, slashed muezzin Raafat Maglad in the neck at London Central Mosque in Regent’s Park, northwest London on February 20.

Muslim convert Horton, who had previously asked the judge to jail him so he could ‘learn the Koran by heart’ refused to leave his cell for his sentencing today.

Horrified worshippers rushed to pin down the attacker while Mr Maglad received first aid and an ambulance was called.

Others spilled into the street as the mosque was evacuated in the aftermath of the attack.

The father-of-three, who leads the call to prayer five times a day, returned to the mosque less than 24 hours after the attack following hospital treatment for a 1.5cm knife wound.

Speaking after the stabbing, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he was ‘deeply saddened’ by the attack, echoing comments made by Mr Maglad himself.

Mr Maglad was a prayer caller at the funeral of Dodi Fayed, who was killed with Diana, Princess of Wales, in the 1997 Paris car crash.

He still suffers from pain and sickness and finds it difficult to ‘raise a spoon to his mouth’, Southwark Crown Court heard.

In his victim impact statement, Mr Maglad said he has had over ten medical appointments for the injuries to his arm and shoulder and was facing shoulder surgery.

The court heard Horton had a string of previous convictions, including two counts of assaulting a police officer and a separate conviction of wounding when he stabbed a friend….

Horton, of no fixed address, had attended the mosque over a number of years and was known to the victim.

On his arrest, he told officers that he didn’t intend to kill Mr Maglad but wanted to ‘send a message’ to him….

“London Mosque Attack Had ‘Been Brewing’, Say Leaders,” by Nadine White, Huffington Post, February 21, 2020:

Muslims in London felt a mosque attack had “been brewing” following incidents at places of worship around the world, community leaders have said.

Shaukat Warraich, director of public affairs at Muslim welfare charity the Al-Khoei Foundation, said worshippers are now “looking over their shoulders” as they come to prayer, with many women and children opting to stay at home rather than venture out to mosques after dark.

Warraich said he spoke to the London Central Mosque about their security measures only an hour before Thursday’s attack, in which a man knifed the muezzin, who makes the call to prayers.

Warraich said many Muslims had been on edge since the Christchurch mosque shootings in New Zealand last March, when 51 people were killed and many others injured by a white supremacist.

He said: “Things have been brewing for some time now, since the Christchurch attacks (generally) the community has feared something like this….

Although the reasons for Thursday’s attack are not yet clear, Mr al-Khoei also suggested there is a rising trend in Islamophobia and condemned media coverage of attacks.

“The fear factor in the community has its roots in many incidents across the country and around the world where Islamophobia seems to be a current trend in people who think Muslims are fair game,” he said.

“People complain that Muslims have become easy targets for some sections of the media.

“Whenever there is an incident where a Muslim is involved it’s about Muslim terrorism. Most of the time when there’s an incident where Muslims are the victim it’s marketed as some lunatic or mad person.

“We need to have steps both to define what Islamophobia is and to counter it and to record it. Otherwise I fear that this cultural victimhood will keep growing.”

Al-Khoei said attackers of Muslims have “perverted the message of religion”.

He added: “To the wider community, it’s really important that no community feels targeted or marginalised or discriminated against.

“We are confident a democratic system can never allow the extremists to prevail and the Muslims of Europe this century not to become the Jews of Europe last century.”…

Police record more than 2,000 honour crimes in the last year

Police forces have had to report honour crimes to Home Office since last year

  • Report shows 74 were female genital mutilation while 140 were forced marriage
  • It warns statistics are likely to be incomplete as victims are often reluctant to come forward and report the crimes to police due to the nature of the offences

More than 2,000 honour crimes have been recorded by police in England and Wales in the last year, figures suggest.

But the true number of crimes being committed is likely to be much higher, due to a reluctance by victims to come forward as well as problems with the way police are recording offences, a Home Office bulletin said.

Police forces have been required to report the number of 'honour-based abuse-related' (HBA) offences they record to the Home Office since April last year.

A short summary of the figures so far, published for the first time on Wednesday, said that in 2019-2020 forces recorded 2,024 HBA crimes.

Of these, 74 were female genital mutilation (FGM) crimes and 140 were forced marriage, while 1,810 other offences were tagged as involving HBA.

The number of crimes recorded by each police force was not provided and no further details were given in the publication.

Greater Manchester Police could not provide any figures because of ongoing problems with new computer technology which have led to issues recording crimes.

The statistics were published in a bid to 'shine a light on the level of these offences dealt with by the police and to encourage other victims to come forward and report these offences to the police,' the Home Office report said.

HBA-related crimes referred to in the report are defined as 'an incident or crime involving violence, threats of violence, intimidation, coercion or abuse (including psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional abuse) which has or may have been committed to protect or defend the honour of an individual, family and/or community for alleged or perceived breaches of the family and/or community's code of behaviour'.

But the experimental statistics are likely to be incomplete, with the report recognising that many victims may be reluctant to report such crimes to the police.

It added: 'These data, therefore, are likely to only represent a small proportion of the actual HBA offences committed in 2019-2020.'

The report also warned that 'while police forces have been asked to confirm the accuracy of the statistics in this release, we are aware of a number of data quality issues'.

This is because some crimes are not always correctly recorded as involving HBA.

The report added: 'Home Office statisticians will work with police forces to improve the data quality of this collection.'

Telford child abuse gang ringleader freed

Ahdel Ali.
Ahdel Ali.
Sex gang leader Ahdel Ali has been released from prison after serving eight years of a 26-year sentence.

He was one of two ringleaders of a sexual grooming gang that preyed on girls as young as 13 in Telford resulting in the Operation Chalice investigation and an independent child sexual exploitation inquiry.

MP Lucy Allan confirmed that Ali, now aged 32, was released on Wednesday.

Known as Eddie he was given a 26-year extended sentence – 18 years’ immediate custody with an additional eight-year period on licence after release, meaning he will be subject to monitoring.

She has previously criticised a decision to give his brother Mubarek Ali early release without the victims and their families being consulted by the Ministry of Justice.

Ali’s 36-year-old brother, Mubarek Ali, known as Max, was given 22 years, 14 years’ immediate custody and eight years on licence, for seven offences – four of controlling child prostitution, causing child prostitution and two offences of trafficking in the UK for the purpose of prostitution, involving two of the victims.

'Monitored'

Miss Allan said: “On this occasion the authorities handled the matter correctly, informing relevant parties, including victims, of the tagging and the exclusion from the local area.

“I am concerned that the law still allows for early release of serious sexual offenders, however, since the sentencing of Ahdel Ali and Mubarak Ali the law has changed to prevent this in future and I am proud to have played my part in this change in the law. ”

The brothers, then of Regent Street, Wellington, were leading players in the ring and were jailed after an eight-week trial.

West Mercia Police’s Operation Chalice uncovered revealed details of a network of men from who targeted young and vulnerable teenage girls.

The Ministry of Justice stated: “Serious sex offenders released on licence are closely monitored and can be returned to prison if they breach strict conditions such as curfews and exclusion zones.”

‘terrorism watchdog’ admits that ‘deradicalization’ programs don’t work

The whole premise of “deradicalization” is that Islam is a religion of peace that jihadis misunderstand, twist, and hijack. Since that is a false premise, and warfare against unbelievers is actually taught in the Qur’an and Sunnah, “deradicalization” focuses on other issues, such as “anger issues” that the jihadi may have, his feelings of “alienation,” and the like.

But since none of that changes what the Qur’an and Sunnah say about warfare against unbelievers, it doesn’t “deradicalize” the jihadi at all. A British psychologist behind a “deradicalization” scheme has also admitted that there’s no guarantee that jihadis can ever be “cured.”

“UK terrorism watchdog says deradicalisation programmes do not work,” by Nikki Harley, The National, December 14, 2020 (thanks to Henry):

The UK’s terrorism watchdog renewed calls for extremists to be given lie detector tests, arguing that deradicalisation programmes do not work.

Jonathan Hall QC, the UK’s independent reviewer of terrorism legislation, said there was “no magic bullet or special pill” that could help to change convicted extremists.

Mr Hall told The Times that schemes should be offered in conjunction with heavy supervision and said that the public should be under “no illusion” that they would be effective.

“There is no magic bullet, there is no special pill you can take that deradicalises people, whether they’re coming back from overseas from Syria or whether they’re being released from prison,” he said.

“It’s a pretty difficult, complex and fraught process. You can’t tell the public that you can place someone with a theological mentor … and they’ll come out the other side. It’s far more difficult than that.

“I can see why people try, because if you didn’t try, it would be throwing away all hope, and these offenders are also subjected to some pretty major restrictions, so it’s worth giving them an opportunity to change. And there will be some who will change, but you should be under no illusions. It is not some automatic process. And in many cases it simply won’t work. It doesn’t mean it’s not worth trying.”

This year, Mr Hall published a review into last year’s terrorist attack near London Bridge in which two people were killed, and made 45 recommendations.

In it, he recommended that terrorist offenders should take lie detector tests. The Home Office is still considering his report….

By Maddie Goodfellow

The Reading attacker who murdered three men and attacked three more will be sentenced in the new year.

Khairi Saadallah, 26, was said to have shouted "Allah Akhbar" and "victory on infidels" during the violent spree which lasted less than two minutes.

He had launched the attacks in Forbury Gardens, Reading, on Saturday June 20 as numerous people, including children, were enjoying the summer evening.

History teacher James Furlong, 36, scientist David Wails, 49, and US citizen Joseph Ritchie-Bennett, 39, were fatally stabbed.

Their friend Stephen Young, and Patrick Edwards and Nishit Nisudan, who were sitting in a nearby group, were injured.

Saadallah had a history of mental health issues, debt and homelessness, according to court documents.

He arrived in the UK as an asylum seeker in 2012, having fled the civil war in his home country of Libya in North Africa.

In November, Saadallah, of Basingstoke Road, Reading, pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey to three murders and three attempted murders.

The court heard he had submitted a basis of plea denying substantial planning of the attack, and insisted it was not motivated by an ideological cause.

But the prosecution submitted that it was a planned terror attack.

Saadallah's sentencing, in which he faced a possible whole life order, was postponed earlier in December.

During a brief hearing attended by the defendant via video link, Mr Justice Sweeney set dates in January for a Newton hearing to decide the issues and sentencing.

He said the case would be listed on January 5 and 6, and either January 7 or 8, with the case scheduled to conclude on January 11.

Man who drove at police officer jailed

A man who mowed down an armed police officer who had been trying to stop his car has been jailed.

Aydin Altun, 26, drove his Mercedes at PC Lewis Crowder in Tottenham, north London, on 29 October last year.

The officer clung on to the bonnet for a split-second before throwing himself from the vehicle.

Altun, of Suffolk Road, Tottenham, was jailed for 11 years and nine months having previously been found guilty of attempted GBH with intent.

An Old Bailey jury cleared him of attempted murder.

PC Crowder and two of his colleagues in the firearms unit had stopped the car as part of an investigation into a shooting the night before, the jury was told.

He had raised his semi-automatic rifle and shouted "armed police, armed police, show me your hands, show me your hands" when Altun drove at him.

The court heard the Met PC narrowly missed hitting concrete bollards and a bus stop when he crashed to the ground and he had suffered concussion, cuts and a ligament injury.

Giving evidence, PC Crowder said he had been "scared for my life" and had "thought I was going to die".

Sentencing Altun, Judge Wendy Joseph QC said the defendant had driven "with the grossest recklessness towards the officer" and then "accelerated up the road as fast as he could, creating enormous danger not just to the officer but other road and pavement users".

She praised PC Crowder's courage in throwing himself off the bonnet, saying the consequences could have been "catastrophic" had he not.

The court heard Altun was on bail on suspicion of firearms offences at the time of the incident, but had not been prosecuted for that.

He had 26 previous convictions for 48 offences including having a blade and numerous driving offences, including four periods of disqualification.

The 26-year-old was also banned from driving and jailed for 16 months having pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, with his sentence to run concurrently.

Muslim stabs woman, insists he’s a terrorist, cops say he isn’t, hospitalize him as mentally ill

Four years ago, I wrote an article entitled “The Global Outbreak of Mental Illness,” detailing some of the instances in which jihad attackers were classified as mentally ill, with authorities denying that the attack was jihad at all. I could update that article now, but with all the new examples of this it would be much, much too long for a single article, and I already have a book in progress.

“Nando’s knife attacker who claimed to be terrorist detained under Mental Health Act,” by Lizzie Dearden, Independent, December 18, 2020 (thanks to Henry):

A man who launched a knife attack in Nando’s restaurant and claimed to be a terrorist has been detained indefinitely under the Mental Health Act.

Ali Algdaner, 27, grabbed a handful of cutlery before stabbing a 20-year-old waitress in the back inside the Arndale Centre.

Greater Manchester Police said he approached other staff members and customers, before moving to the restaurant next door on 18 October 2019….

“While in police custody, Algander made false admissions that he was a terrorist and that he had planted bombs in the centre but a thorough search of the building ensued and no suspicious items were found,” a police spokesperson said.

“Algander continued to state he had committed a terrorist attack and was subsequently assessed by mental health specialists before being detained under the Mental Health Act. He has since been remanded in a specialist hospital.”

On Friday, he was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order under section 37 of the Mental Health Act 1983….

Mohammed Rahim and Nazrul Miah

These are the faces of two thugs who punched and kicked a father-of-three in the head after he had tried to hug one of them earlier in the night.

Mohammed Rahim, 25, and Nazrul Miah, 27, have been jailed for 20 months each for the cowardly attack outside the Dead Wax pub in Digbeth.

The pair, from Small Heath, admitted one charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm on the victim, who was unable to see out of one of his eyes for three months and feared he was 'going to die for no reason'.

West Midlands Police has now released the custody photos of the defendants who are now behind bars.

They claimed they were provoked by racial abuse on the night in question but they were 'remorseful' for their actions.

However Judge Peter Carr, passing sentence on Wednesday, December 9, stated there was 'no justification' for the attack and the 'only appropriate' sentence' was one of immediate custody.

Birmingham Crown Court was told the pair had been at the Dead Wax on January 11, when the victim, under the influence of alcohol, had been dancing around and hugging people.

A confrontation occurred between the man and the two defendants which was broken up by security and ended in handshakes.

But Rahim and Miah then set upon the victim after he left the venue around 3am, hitting him to the ground and beating him whilst on the floor.

Rahim, of Oldknow Road, allegedly told police that the man 'deserved' what he got. While Miah, of Haybarnes Road, admitted they 'probably went over the top' when he was told about the extent of the man's injuries, which included a broken nose, teeth and cuts to his head.

Terrorist Who Plotted Police Beheading ‘Highly Likely’ to be Released with Lifelong Anonymity

The terrorist is one of the few child criminals in Britain to be granted lifelong anonymity, meaning that upon his release the public will have zero knowledge that a terrorist is living in their midst.

A Parole Board hearing for the convicted terrorist — referred to only as ‘RXG’ — will be held next week, and it is “highly likely” that he will be released on licence, The Mirror reports.

‘RXG’ was handed a “life” sentence with a minimum of five years in prison at Manchester Crown Court in 2015, after pleading guilty to inciting terrorism overseas.

The court heard that he convinced 18-year-old Sevdet Besim to commit mass murder and behead a policeman in Melbourne, Australia during an Anzac Day, an Australian equivalent of Remembrance Sunday or Veterans Day.

The two terrorists would have “in all probability” been successful had British police not uncovered the plot and alerted Australian officials.

When police raided the teenager’s home, they discovered a bomb-making guide, a combat knife, and a flag supporting the Islamic State.

Police said that aside from the plot in Australia, ‘RXG’ had planned to target a police station and town hall in the United Kingdom.

During a hearing on whether to keep the terrorist’s identity anonymous, Mr Justice Saunders argued that there was a danger of ‘RXG’ becoming glorified by certain sectors of society if his identity were to be revealed.

“That glorification is more likely to be effective if he is identified and more likely to encourage others to do what he has done,” Justice Saunders said.

In response to the decision to allow the terrorist to remain anonymous, a research fellow for the anti-extremism think tank the Henry Jackson Society, Dr Paul Stott, said: “The 2019 decision to grant a teenage terrorist lifelong anonymity, despite the objections of the media, was a remarkable decision.”

“The public will rightly be disturbed that a young man considered dangerous enough to be jailed for life in 2015 may be considered for release in April 2020,” Scott added.

“The attack at London Bridge and Sudesh Amman’s in Streatham have proven that we can’t rule out released terrorists going on the rampage again,” he warned, adding: “The interests and concerns of the general public must come first.”

In February, the government passed the Terrorist Offenders (Restriction of Early Release) Bill, which extended the minimum sentence for terrorists to at least two-thirds of determinate sentence, rather than the standard half-term mandated for most criminals.

officer jailed for 2 years for sexual assault on girl

Farooq Ahmed

REGIONAL

Farooq Ahmed

A SERVING officer with Greater Manchester Police in Tameside has been jailed for two years for sexually assaulting a young girl.

Farooq Ahmed targeted the girl when she was still at primary school by touching her private parts on three occasions.

Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court heard on the first occasion the girl woke up to discover her clothing had been removed.

On the next two occasions he touched and licked her private parts and on the last occasion filmed himself doing so but quickly deleted it.

He also made sure her hand was touching his genitalia.

The offences, which took place in 2016, came to light in November last year when Ahmed confessed and eventually walked into the police station to tell officers what had happened.

He admitted three counts of sexual assault and one of making an indecent image of a child in December, and appeared in court yesterday to be sentenced.

Prosecutor Brian Berlyne revealed he was an employee of Greater Manchester Police.

He said: “Until he was arrested he was a serving police officer.”

Judge Nicholas Clarke interjected, asking: “How was his service terminated?”

Mr Berlyne replied: “As I understand it he has been suspended.”

The judge then asked: “He is still being paid? He has not resigned from the service?”

Mr Berlyne replied: “That is correct as I understand it.”

He explained the offences had taken place before he joined the police in March 2017.

He also read out a victim impact statement from the mother of the young girl which showed the devastating impact of the incidents on her and her daughter.

It said when she found out what had happened “her world fell apart”.

“I did not know what to say or think.

“There was a lot of tears and shock. This has had a massive impact on all our lives.”

Representing Ahmed, of Mossley Road in Ashton-under-Lyne, defence counsel Johnathan King said his client had the “deepest remorse.”

He said: “This is a guilty plea at the first opportunity.

“Mr Ahmed wishes to convey his deepest remorse for these offences.

“He served the police for three years, he completed his probation early in 2019, he worked in the Tameside area.”

He added: “He accepts he must face the full consequence of this.”

Imposing a sentence, Judge Clarke said: “My first thoughts are with the young girl, who was still at primary school when she suffered sexual abuse.”

He jailed the 37-year-old for two years and made him subject to the sex offenders’ register and imposed a sexual harm prevention order for five years.

He added: “You will have to serve this sentence at a very difficult time in prisons and as a previously serving police officer.”

A GMP spokesperson said: “GMP’s Professional Standards Branch is now taking action in line with the police regulations to seek the officer’s dismissal from the police service at the earliest opportunity.”

Detective Sergeant Zahid Latif said: “This was disgusting abuse of a young girl and it is important today that justice has been served for the victim, who has been receiving support from specialist officers and partner agencies throughout this investigation.

“The victim has been at the heart of this case during the entirety of our investigation and we hope that she and her loved ones are able to take some comfort from today’s verdict.

“There is absolutely no place for abuse such as this in our society and Ahmed is now behind bars to consider his actions and the profound impact they have had on his victim.”

Khairi Saadallah pleaded guilty to three murders and three attempted murders

  • The attacks took place in Forbury Gardens, Reading, last summer on June 20
  • Saadallah was allowed to associate with radical preacher Omar Brooks in prison

A killer who denies being a terrorist after stabbing three people to death in Reading has been pictured clutching a Kalashnikov while video footage has revealed the moment he bought the knife he used to kill his victims.

Khairi Saadallah, 26, pleaded guilty to three murders and three attempted murders but denies terrorist motives.

He killed James Furlong, David Wails and Joseph Ritchie-Bennett in Forbury Gardens in Reading on June 20 last year.

It comes after other footage revealed the moment a policeman visited Saadallah and told him he was 'not in trouble' while standing metres away from a bag containing the knife he would use just 24 hours later to kill three and wound three more 'for jihad'.

Body-worn camera footage reveals the discussion between Saadallah - only out of prison days before -  and two officers, in which the Islamist extremist pledges he's 'off the trouble' and looking to get his life back on track by working.

The following day, however, on June 20 last year, Saadallah would carry out a terrorist atrocity using the weapon police were just inches away from when visiting the killer.

The revelation came during the sentencing hearing of the 26-year-old Libyan at the Old Bailey on Tuesday. In November, Saadallah pleaded guilty to murdering three men and attempting to murder three others during a stabbing rampage at a Reading park on June 20th, 2020. During the multi-day sentencing hearing, the prosecution is arguing that Saadallah was influenced by Islamist jihadist ideology to commit a premeditated terror attack and that he should face life in prison.

The prosecution told the court, according to the Evening Standard, that Saadallah travelled from Tripoli, Libya, to the UK in 2012 on a visitor’s visa then claimed asylum, alleging that he had fled an armed group that had helped overthrow Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.

His refugee application was rejected, but rather than obey the leave order, he “absconded” in 2013, only to come to the attention of authorities again due to his criminal activity. Reports from 2020 revealing that over the next seven years, the failed asylum seeker had racked up a series of convictions and prison sentences including for battery, assault of a female police officer, and racially aggravated harassment.

Saadallah then said he would abide by the removal order but, the court heard, “stopped cooperating with the process in 2014”. Despite his criminal activities and refusal to abide by immigration laws, in 2018 he was given temporary leave to remain until 2023.

The Home Office then considered him for removal in 2019, “But he was told the Secretary of State was not going to take the step of deporting the defendant at that time because of what was described as a legal barrier. The legal barrier that prevented him from being deported was purely and simply the circumstances as they existed in Libya at that time,” Alison Morgan QC said.

The migrant’s final stint in prison ended on June 5th, 2020, and he was again marked for removal but could not be deported under human rights laws. Just over two weeks alter, he murdered James Furlong, Joseph Ritchie-Bennett, and David Wails, while yelling “Allahu Akbar” and attempted to murder Patrick Edwards, Nishit Nisudan, and Stephen Young.

Ms Morgan told the court: “In less than a minute, shouting the words Allahu Akbar – God is greatest – the defendant carried out a lethal attack with a knife, killing all three men before they had even a chance to respond and try to defend themselves.

“Within the same minute, the defendant went on to attack others nearby, stabbing three more men.

“The defendant was ruthlessly efficient in his actions and, the prosecution’s case is, the attack perpetrated by him was carefully planned and executed with determination and precision.

“Moreover the defendant believed in carrying out this attack he was acting in pursuit of an extremist ideology he appears to have held for some time.

“He believed killing as many people as possible, he was performing an act of religious jihad.”

She also told the judge that Saadallah had lied in his asylum application. While admitting to belonging to the now-proscribed Ansar Al Sharia terror group, he had claimed during the asylum process that he did not handle weapons or fight but guarded hospitals — a statement countered by evidence presented by the prosecution of Facebook pictures from 2011 showing the Libyan handling firearms and appearing “proud of what he was doing”.

The court also heard that he had befriended an Islamist extremist during one of his stints in prison. The prosecution revealed that Saadallah had served time with Muslim convert Omar Brooks, also known as Abu Izzadeen, at HMP Bullingdon. Morgan described Brooks as a “prominent radical preacher” and member of the banned terror group, al-Muhajiroun, co-founded by Anjem Choudary.

Mr Justice Sweeney will continue sentencing proceedings on Wednesday and Friday, concluding on January 11th.

Rapist Dahir Ibrahim who has been jailed for life

A Somalian rapist who overturned a deportation order has been jailed for brutally raping two more women in Birmingham.

Dahir Ibrahim, 31, was sentenced ten years in 2005 after the first sex attack on a prostitute in Edgbaston.

A judge ordered his deportation after serving his sentence, but he appealed and was later given leave to remain in the UK.

Now Ibrahim, from Thornhill Road, Handsworth , has been jailed for life with a minimum of 10 years after raping two ‘vulnerable’ women within six weeks of each other in 2014.

Steven Bailey, prosecuting at Birmingham Crown Court, said the first victim left her home in the early hours of September 5 to buy cannabis.

She was approached by Ibrahim who offered to sell her drugs and persuaded her to follow him down an alleyway off Villa Road, Handsworth.

But once there he threatened her with a Stanley knife before raping her. “She was crying and telling him to stop and started screaming and shouting,” said Mr Bailey.

Mr Bailey said the woman was beaten by Ibrahim during her ordeal before she managed to flee and was helped by a driver on the Birchfield Road.

The second victim was sleeping rough in St Paul’s Square when she was attacked by Ibrahim in the early hours of October 18. He threatened her with a pair of pliers and a screwdriver before raping her.

Ibrahim was tracked down by police through a combination of DNA, forensic and CCTV evidence.

In passing sentence, Judge Murray Creed said: “There was abuse and humiliation. There was severe psychological hurt and harm done. There was degradation. They were sustained incidents and the victims were targeted.”

Ibrahim had previously admitted two charges of rape, two of possessing weapons and another serious sexual offence.

Jabeen Akhtar, defending, said Ibrahim had come from a country where he had witnessed many atrocities and that he had a lack of understanding of what is acceptable in the UK.

Rapist Dahir Ibrahim runs away after Villa Road attack.

“It was more opportunistic then pre-planned,’’ he claimed. “No long term physical injury was sustained by the victims.”

Speaking after the case Detective Constable Gavin McGrath , from the force’s Public Protection Unit, said: “The evidence against Ibrahim was indisputable and, in desperation, he tried to claim that it was a ‘fit up’. But a few days before he was due to stand trial changed his plea to guilty.

“I am pleased that he has spared these women the further ordeal of a trial and he will now be behind bars and no longer a danger to the public.”

It is understood Ibrahim will now be deported after serving his latest sentence.

Radicalised mum hid phone in her bra to call Islamist extremist 'husband' from cell

Victoria Webster and Amaani Noor - an ex-girlfriend of Liverpool footballer Sheyi Ojo - were both previously jailed after sending about £50 each to a terrorist group in SyriaBy

A radicalised mum who funded Islamist terrorism contacted her extremist 'husband' from jail with a phone hidden in her bra.

Victoria Webster and Amaani Noor - an ex-girlfriend of Liverpool footballer Sheyi Ojo - were both previously jailed after sending about £50 each to a terrorist group in Syria.

Police also found videos on their phones of ISIS fighters torturing and executing prisoners, as well as evidence of their support for extremism.

Webster was jailed for 17 months in December 2019 after admitted providing money for terrorism and inviting another person to do the same.

Noor, then 21, from Wavertree, who had married a jihadist fighter, was found guilty of providing money for terrorism and locked up for 18 months.

Liverpool Crown Court heard yesterday how one of the pair - mum-of-two Webster, 29, from Lancashire, had secretly 'married' Ricardo Langaigne aka Ricardo MacFarlane - a thug linked to a roll call of British extremists, Liverpool Echo reports.

Noor, then 21, from Wavertree, had married a jihadist fighter and was found guilty of providing money for terrorism and locked up for 18 months

Langaigne has been linked to Fusilier Lee Rigby's murderer Michael Adebolajo, radical preacher Anjem Choudary, fellow 'Muslim Patrol' yobs Jordan Horner and Royal Barnes, and bomb-making manual hoarder Afsor Ali.

Rebecca Smith, prosecuting, said prison officers at HMP Styal searched Webster and another woman's cell on July 29 last year.

Both inmates denied having anything that they shouldn't at first before Webster went on to confess and "took a thin mobile phone from within her bra area and handed it to the officer."

When interviewed the Muslim convert admitted having the phone and said it had been a difficult period in her life and she was depressed and self-harming after losing custody of her daughters, which left her "heartbroken, in despair and suicidal."

Ms Smith said Webster claimed she had the phone to call family and friends because "she needed their love, support and encouragement to keep on going".

Analysis of the phone showed one number was saved with just a full stop as the name, which Webster contacted 301 times, including both incoming and outgoing calls and texts.

Ms Smith said this number was attributed to Langaigne and information provided by police indicated the risk he was said to pose to national security.

Ms Smith said: "Of note is offending which gives an indication of an extremist mindset.

"Importantly, in 2013 he was convicted of an offence of affray relating to an incident when he acted in the company of Jordan Horner, also of concern to national security. They attacked a group of men drinking in the street, shouting 'kill the non-believers' and describing themselves as the Muslim Patrol."

Ms Smith said "such was the level of concern" over the risk he posed that Webster was not allowed to use a prison phone to speak with him, despite stating that she had "married" him in 2018.

The hearing took place at Liverpool Crown Court
The hearing took place at Liverpool Crown Court

She said: "There is no information to say they have ever physically met, but they have communicated over the phone, she had spoken to him by WhatsApp, and in her eyes she believed they were man and wife."

Ms Smith added: "The concern is having access to the phone provided the defendant with an opportunity to have regular contact with a person who it is believed presents a potential risk to public safety."

She said Webster was due to be released on licence on December 23 last year, but had since been remanded in custody.

Webster, formerly of Nelson, admitted possessing a mobile phone in and transmission of calls from prison.

Judge Menary told Webster she had been 'taken in by and to an extent radicalised by some of the nonsense you had seen on various websites and platforms, about the acts of extremist fundamentalist Muslim organisations.'

Jailing her for eight months, he warned: "You have already paid a very high price in your personal life for being involved with this type of activity.

"The sooner you realise that and completely divorce yourself from this activity, if not the individual concerned, then all the better for you."

Dark web user could be in Birmingham after failing to attend grenade trial

Mohammed Humza, 29, has links to Birmingham and has fled after he was sentenced in his absence to five years in prison on January 15

A man who attempted to buy grenades online may be in Birmingham after he failed to attend his trial and sentencing.

Mohammed Humza, 29, has links to Birmingham and has fled after he was sentenced in his absence to five years in prison on January 15.

Humza is described as 5'8", Asian and of medium build.

In addition to Watford, he is known to have links to Birmingham, Luton and Rochdale.

Detective Chief Inspector Trevor Davidson, Head of Investigations at ERSOU, said: "The sentence given to Humza is a clear indication of the severity of his actions, and our enquiries to locate him are ongoing. We are seeking the public's help in ensuring he is brought to face the justice he deserves.

"It's important to note that the offence took place some time ago and he didn't receive the items that he was trying to buy, however I would still urge the public not to approach Humza and instead contact police or Crimestoppers immediately."

Officers spoke to his estranged wife who said she had not spoken to him since last Saturday and he "comes and goes as he pleases to see his children".

The mother of three said she did not have a contact number for him and was unaware he was facing a trial.

Further inquiries revealed Humza was in a relationship with another woman who suggested he was out of the country in Pakistan, possibly Kashmir.

His parents and in-laws in Birmingham said they had not seen him since June, the court heard.

The court heard that Humza had previous convictions for fraud and theft, but no terror-related offences.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call their local police force immediately, or can contact Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111, quoting Operation Footprint.

Married father-of-three asylum seeker, 46, who claimed he 'didn't know it was illegal' to share sickening child and animal porn videos to chat with fellow Iranian nationals in Germany and Georgia is jailed for 20 months

A married father-of-three has been jailed for 20 months for sharing child and animal porn videos over a group chat.

Asylum seeker Fartam Bassiri, 46, claimed he didn't have a sexual interest in children despite police finding around 30 indecent images on his laptop in December 2018 during a police raid on his home in Birchwood, Warrington.

Bassiri told Judge David Swinnerton he didn't know sharing the images was a crime and that he did it out of disgust, not because he was sexually attracted to children.

Learning he had been jailed Bassiri, with the help of an interpreter, said: 'I really really don't know this is a crime and I wouldn't know that by sending this to somebody else to show someone disgusting matter is going to cause me this problem.'

But Judge Swinnerton said: 'You have not yet been ready to face up to why you were looking at and distributing these images.'

Mike Stephenson, prosecuting, said police found 11 category A images in Bassiri's home, of which eight were videos,  and 27 category B images, of which two were videos, and one category C image.

There were also two still images of extreme pornography involving animals and six videos. Mr Stephenson said: 'Some of the images were automatically loaded onto another piece of equipment, there was some element of duplication.'

He explained one of the three videos of child rape involved a mature female and a boy aged between five and seven which was sent to an address in Georgia on October 16, 2018.

A second video which involved two 12-year-old girls was sent to a doctor in Germany.

Bassiri then sent another video to the same doctor on December 5, 2018, which involved two boys, aged eight and 12, and a donkey.

Mr Stephenson added: 'The crown's position is he does have a sexual interest in children.'

Bassiri has no previous convictions.

Jonathan Turner, defending, said: 'The images were received without request on a group chat from Iranian nationals.'

Mr Turner explained that the duplication of the images was due to the way the devices synced with each other automatically.

He said: 'He has worked consistently since arriving in the UK, most recently as a driver for a pharmaceutical company.'

Mr Turner said Bassiri had been married for 15 years and has three sons, who he provides for as his wife does not work.

He said Bassiri was an asylum seeker since his brother was incarcerated in Iran, adding: 'That was his first attempt to remain, he was in danger due to political association.'

Referring to a pre-sentence report Mr Turner urged the judge to impose a community penalty and said: 'He expresses remorse and shame for offending in that report. There is a low likelihood of reoffending and low risk of sexual offending.'

Bassiri admitted three counts of downloading indecent photographs of children, distributing three child rape videos, possessing an extreme pornographic image portraying serious injury to a person's private parts, possessing seven extreme pornographic images including animals and possessing 39 indecent images of children.

Judge Swinnerton said: 'You not only downloaded that but you shared it. I don't think you have been entirely frank with your reasons for looking at this. You said you shared them to show disgust and comment at how terrible this is.

'You didn't just post it once. You distributed it on three separate occasions - that is in addition to the 30 images you had downloaded.'

The judge, commenting on how Bassiri had claimed he didn't know it was an offence and shared it out of disgust, said: 'That was not what you were doing here. You know.

'You have expressed some remorse and shame. You know this material, looking at it and in particular sharing it is deeply wrong and that is why the starting point for sharing is three years.'

Judge Swinnerton said he took into account Bassiri's good character and afforded him full credit for his guilty pleas.

The judge added: 'You are someone with a wife and three children for whom you provide, although at the moment you are not living with them because of this offence.

'I note what is said about the further risk you pose being low but I also note you have not yet been ready to face up to why you were looking at and distributing these images.

'I also have to ask myself whether the only proper sentence for distributing class A images is one of immediate imprisonment and I take the view it is I am afraid.'

Judge Swinnerton said: 'Those that distribute class A images of children can expect to go to prison.'

Bassiri was jailed for one year and eight months.

Former Stechford teacher who abused girl, 14, and called her his wife is jailed

A former Birmingham teacher who showered a teenage girl with gifts including a phone and jewellery, before sexually abusing her, has been jailed.

Mazhar Hussain referred to his 14-year-old victim as his 'wife' - and she believed she had entered into a marriage with him following an over-the-phone ceremony.

After Hussain 'gifted' the girl a phone, more than 2,200 text messages were exchanged between the two, many of them of an explicit nature - in little over a month

The messages proved Hussain, 38, had met with the youngster and sexual activity had taken place.

On a number of occasions Hussain and the girl referred to each other as husband and wife.

The 2018 abuse came to light after the girl bravely made contact with police after speaking with a family friend about Hussain’s grooming.

He was arrested later the same day.

Hussain, of Old Farm Road, Stechford, admitted four counts of sexual activity with a child under the age of 16, at an earlier hearing at Birmingham Crown Court.

He was yesterday, Monday, March 22, sentenced to three years and three months in jail.

Hussain was also put on the sex offenders register and given a sexual harm prevention order for life.

Det Con Dave Cooper, from West Midlands Police's Public Protection Unit, said: "We must commend this girl for having the courage to tell us about what was happening to her.

Mohammed Fike Butt admitted murder and other offences midway through his trial at Leeds Crown Court

A disqualified driver laughed as he drove over a man like 'a speed bump' then went to a takeaway to order chips.

Mohammed Fike Butt admitted murdering Jason Llanwarne and attempting to seriously injure Dean Ward and Scott Chalders by driving his car at them in a Leeds street.

The 32-year-old entered guilty pleas midway through his trial at Leeds Crown Court.

He was on trial accused of murder and accused of attempting to murder Mr Ward and Mr Chalders and dangerous driving during the incident on North Lane in Headingley on September 14 last year.

Butt admitted lesser charges of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent and driving whilst disqualified.

The pleas were accepted by the Crown Prosecution Service and the judge directed the jury to formally find him not guilty of the remaining charges.

Butt, of Cross Flatts Avenue, Beeston, will be sentenced on Wednesday (March 31).

The trial

During the trial, jurors heard how Butt laughed as he drove his car over Mr Llanwarne's body as he lay prone on the pavement after being deliberately knocked down.

Butt then went to a takeaway and ordered himself a portion of chips.

Prosecutors said Butt carried out the attack to teach the three men "a lesson" during a dispute over drugs.

Prosecutor Stephen Wood QC said Butt rammed the men with his Mazda 3 car during two separate attempts to hit them.

During the second attempt, Mr Butt collided with one of the men who was struck with such force, the car's windscreen was shattered.

The victim was carried along on the bonnet of the car and then landed on the ground, only for Mr Butt to return for a third time and run over the man's body, the court heard.

Mr Wood said: "That man laid on the pavement obviously injured, if not fatally injured, by the force of the impact.

"Having struck this male in what was plainly an obviously heavy collision, the defendant carried on driving. Not to drive away though, not to flee the scene.

"He left the pavement, went back onto the carriageway, turned the car around and drove along the carriageway before stopping, turning the vehicle again, before once more mounting the pavement and driving towards the body of the male still lying on the pavement and then quite deliberately drove his vehicle over the body of that male.

"One witness describes it as if the defendant was driving over a speed bump.

"CCTV shows the defendant, you may think, looking out of the driver's window to get a better look.

"The defendant then drove off, later abandoning his vehicle before going to a local takeaway to buy some chips."

Mr Wood added that Mr Butt had "no regard for the wellbeing" of the three men he had driven at.

He added that the prosecution's case is that he carried out the hit-and-runs to "teach the males a lesson".

  • He admitted sharing extremist videos online while subject to a terror notification
  • Anderson had previously been jailed for three years in 2016 for promoting ISIS
  • He will be sentenced on April 30 after admitting 14 terror-related offences

A Muslim convert has admitted sharing extremist videos on social media while subject to a terrorism notification order.

Convicted terrorist Ibrahim Anderson, 44, pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey on Wednesday to a string of offences committed in the summer and autumn of 2020.

The ginger-bearded defendant, from Luton, Bedfordshire, admitted breaching notification requirements by not providing email details that he was using.

The ginger bearded extremist was previosly jailed for three years in 2016 for promoting ISIS on Oxford Street in London

He pleaded guilty to 10 counts of disseminating terrorist publications relating to videos shared on Facebook and Telegram last July.

He also pleaded guilty to a further four charges of possession of terrorist publications relating to terror group ISIS.

The defendant entered his pleas via video-link from Wandsworth jail.

His lawyer, Patrick Harte, said Anderson admitted dissemination 'on a reckless basis in the sense he did not intend his act to encourage terrorism'.

Mr Harte told the court his client said he must have inadvertently downloaded the other documents when he downloaded the films and neither opened nor forwarded them to anyone else.

In 2016, Anderson was jailed for three years for promoting ISIS outside Topshop in London's Oxford Street.

The  ginger bearded Islamic extremist admitted sharing 10 prohibited extremist videos between July and October last year.

Anderson, a follower of hate preacher Anjem Choudary, also admitted four counts of possessing ISIS propaganda and recruitment magazine Rumiyah.

He was jailed for three years at the Old Bailey in 2016 after he set up a stall outside Topshop on London's Oxford Street to drum up support for ISIS.

Moderate Muslims Asmaa and Reem Al-Jufaisha were so disgusted by the leaflets being handed out they challenged Anderson and Shah Jahan Khan, 67, as the pair ranted at passers-by.

Anderson told the Iraqi Shia Muslim sisters they were 'Khuffar', a derogatory term for non-believers, and told them to 'go die.'

He then showed his Facebook followers an image of an AK-47 assault rifle placed in front of a prayer mat after being released from prison.

Anderson also had extremist images on his Facebook account

In the caption on the post, Anderson wrote: 'Remember the Mujahideen [jihadi warriors] in your prayers because they are fighting on your behalf.'

In another post, Anderson showed a box filled with bullets.

Anderson admitted 15 charges in total, but claims he was 'reckless' by sharing the videos, and that he must have downloaded the terrorist magazine 'inadvertently'.

His lawyer Patrick Harte said psychiatrists now have concerns about his intelligence level.

'Mr Anderson was visited yesterday by a psychiatric team, we initially had concerns as to the mental state of the defendant,' said Mr Harte.

'Those concerns have passed, however the doctor who saw Mr Anderson wants to explore a number of issues, namely his IQ and so on.'

Judge Philip Katz QC said: 'We're going to try to work out where we are and when I can pass sentence upon you.

'Meanwhile you will remain in custody there has been a probation report ordered for you and any doctor or anybody else who needs to see you, meanwhile you must remain in custody.'

Anderson, of Luton, admitted ten counts of disseminating terrorist materials, four counts of possessing terrorist information and one of breaching notification requirements under the Counter-Terrorism Act.

He will be sentenced on April 30.
